FAQ

What types of subjects do you have available?

eSkill's subject library covers popular IT, English language, and Office software products. You can see our subject list here. More are on their way, and your suggestions are most welcome.

Do you charge per test?

Under our unlimited plans, eSkill does not charge per test.

As an unlimited current subscriber you are entitled to administer unlimited tests, ideal for prescreening volumes of candidates without extra cost to you.

eSkill also offers a pay-per-test option for customers who test in lower volumes or more sporadically.

Is eSkill appropriate for e-learning as well as screening?

Yes, as a test score report includes a skill-gap analysis and educational question explanations. Employees can easily be given access to tests and their score reports.

Where do you get your questions developed under the subjects you have available?

eSkill has a network of Subject Matter Experts that are contracted to develop, maintain, and peer-review test question content.

Are your tests validated?

eSkill's test content and process has been reviewed and validated by independent, well-recognized Industrial Psychologists specializing in assessment validation. A copy of their report is available upon request.

For practical and legal purposes, any pre-employment test is best used as one of multiple points of consideration for employment, rather than as the sole determinant.

Do you have Adaptive Testing or Interactive Testing?

Adaptive testing is ill-advised for most technical subjects because they have diverse subtopics, each with a separate skill progression. An eSkill test covers multiple subtopics and skill levels for a thorough, effective assessment. Since an adaptive test may abort before revealing a candidate's true strengths, it is less accurate (not apples to apples), and introduces an element of demonstrable discrimination into your hiring process.

Simulations, which attempt to mimic an application's interface through a Java or Flash program, might sound more effective, but in fact there are two major pitfalls with them vs. eSkill's graphical tests:

  1. Simulation scoring is unreliable
Because not all shortcuts that strong users tend to use are scored correctly, scoring produces false negatives. Also, increased complexity for test takers invites technical difficulties with bandwidth-limited applicants (e.g. dialups and network piggybacking) and browser plugins. Not only is this undesirable from a support point of view, it also introduces discrimination.
  2. Simulations lack broad coverage for customization and test versioning
An eSkill subject has over 200 selectable items with selectable skill levels and subtopics, vs. only 20-40 questions in a rigid simulation test. If you plan on refreshing your test, using different versions of a test, performing skills-gap analysis, or testing before and after training, then eSkill's rich modular content will support such functions while the alternatives cannot.

Don't be misled by the misleading marketing of simulators. eSkill's graphic-rich questions are designed to assess knowledge more accurately and thoroughly than simulation-based tests, with more content for power users, and with more technical reliability.
